I don't like the streetlights.
They're like discoloured suns
Shining in my window,
So sad and lonely
In that orange light of theirs.
Too dim to make a difference
Too bright to let me sleep.
Click. Click. Click. So maddeningly repetitive. Hours upon hours of the same sound, looped endlessly. It would truly drive one insane. But she was too caught up in her work to notice. And like her are oh so many. It's as if none ever hear the sickening clicking of the keys. And all of this for what?
On the massive Japanese cypress wooden table covered in a beautifully and masterfully hand-embroidered red and gold satin cloth stretched a seemingly endless river of overflowing fine China dishes, steaming-hot metal pots and pans and small porcelain glasses filled to the brim with sake.
